Tip Tuesday – The True Magic of Tidying Up

It seems that everyone I know is binge-watching “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” on Netflix. Kondo wrote “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” a bestseller which many swear by.

I have watched a few episodes and now I want to share with you the TRUE MAGIC that will result from an easy-to-maintain organized space. Plus, let me assure you that such magic can come from methods beyond the “KonMari Method.”

In my view, the magic comes from three fundamentals: Resolve, Time, and Effort!  Yes, these features are all part of the “KonMari Method,” but they are not unique to it. Resolve, time and effort are essential not just to organizing, but to ALL the positive changes you want to make.

Once you make up your mind to clear up an area, you have the first ingredient: RESOLVE. Without motivation and determination, the state of your home will remain unchanged.

Next comes taking the TIME to thoughtfully choose what is staying in your home. Putting all these “keep” items away properly is important, and this process is not to be rushed. In fact, to be done properly, it often takes twice or even three times longer than people anticipate!

And finally comes EFFORT. This is NOT easy work. It takes emotional and physical stamina to do it well. Whether the effort is yours or a shared effort with someone you hire, it can be exhausting.

So there you have it: the steps I believe produce the TRUE MAGIC of making a change. Do YOU have what it takes to “tidy up”?
And stay tuned for next week, when I’ll recount all the ways I disagree with the KonMari Method!
