Tip Tuesday – The RITE System
This Valentine’s week we are thinking of all the things we love, and, let’s face it, we all love our stuff! You may have tried KonMari or other methods to corral it all. I suggest trying my RITE System to keep your clutter under control.
This is my approach to organizing every time I work with a client, and I encourage you to give it a go too:
RESOLVE = Have a good, long talk with yourself and express the reasons that you want to make a change. If you are motivated to see results, and mentally prepared for the challenge, you will be more likely to accomplish your goals. For example, you have resolved to clear out a spare room and convert it into a nursery before your second trimester. Because you have clearly articulated your motivation for the change, and the results you’d like to see, you are mentally prepared to begin organizing.
IMAGINATION = Imagine how you will feel once your space is clear, calm, and everything you need is exactly where you want it! Use your imagination to see what unique solutions and ideas will work best for YOU. The more vivid the details you imagine, the better! For the nursery example, think about where you would want a reading nook or a diaper station, and how many books or diapers you will need to accommodate!
TIME = Organizing does not magically happen. It takes time! Carve out regular hours with yourself, your professional organizer, or your family to tackle projects big or small.
EFFORT = Know that organizing requires effort but it WILL pay off. There is a lot of lifting, shifting, and decision-making involved before you get to your final result, but your efforts will be worth it!
The RITE System can be applied to ANY positive change you want make in your life. And remember, the Simplify You team would LOVE to help you achieve your goals. Happy Valentine’s Day!
