Tip Tuesday – Rev Up Your Routine

September is the “unofficial New Year” for many of us. For parents and students, it is back-to-school time, so new routines are often needed. But even if you’re not involved in the school year, September is the perfect month for a routine RESET!
I challenge you to think of ONE measurable action that you can take starting in September to rev up your routine.

Remember: repetition is what makes for a successful routine. So something done consistently (daily or weekly) is more likely to stick! And if you couple routine with reward then your chance of success doubles!

I polled clients, friends, and family for examples of the realistic things they were planning to do to rev up their routine. Note how reward is part of the equation:

Doing all of the laundry every Sunday = sleeping in fresh sheets Sunday night.

Drinking 80 ounces of water every day = having a 4 ounce glass of wine each evening.

Walking 8,000 steps a day = watching a Netflix show with my feet up each evening.

Having a family meeting on Friday evenings = ordering in pizza so that we don’t have to cook at the end of a long week.

Spending 30 minutes doing yoga and meditation = doing the daily crossword.
