Tip Tuesday – Remember the 80/20 Rule

pie charts

Have you heard of the Pareto principle, also known as the 80/20 rule? Every day when I’m organizing clients’ homes, I see how this principle is applicable. For example:
80% of the time people wear the same 20% of their clothes.
80% of the time people eat the same 20% of their food.
80% of the time kids play with the same 20% of their toys. And so on!
When clients recognize how the 80/20 rule applies to their lives, it seems to free them up to edit their homes more authentically! Use this principle to your advantage when curating your:
– Closet (Out go those painful designer high heels you bought in your late 20s. In are your slip-on sneakers, which you wear nearly every day!)
– Pantry (Out go those stale crackers you bought for your once-a-year party. In is the Costco-sized jar of peanut butter for the kids’ daily sandwiches!)
Toiletries (Out goes the expensive shampoo that smells funny. In is your must-have moisturizer!)
– Holiday decor (Out goes that strange tree ornament. In is your favorite cozy “Sugar Cookie” candle!)
Are there other examples in your life or home where you can apply the 80/20 principle to be more productive?
