Tip Tuesday – Grab and Go

With the recent nor’easters blowing through, we’ve seen just how quickly things can change—in the blink of Mother Nature’s eye.

And so, in case of emergencies or natural disasters, I encourage my clients to gather all their vital documents in one place, where they could easily grab them and go.  Vital documents for you and your family can include passports, birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses or divorce decrees, car titles, insurance numbers for claims, home deeds, and mortgage or investment information.

I advise that these documents be kept in a safe, but accessible, place in your home. If they are buried in the attic, or in a safe deposit box at the bank, they are not easy to “grab and go.”  Accordingly, carefully consider exactly where you’ll collect these documents, and, while you’re at it, scan them to a secure “cloud” for digital safe-keeping.
